It’s not as if I had ever imagined having a poodle before we got our first one. The dog of my youth, whom I had begged for over many years and cared for responsibly and lovingly, with whom I had worked to become a well-coordinated team, was a Cocker Spaniel.
Our poodle Picasso came into our lives many years later, in a way I’ll simply call "by chance."
And for us, the unofficial saying "once a poodle – always a poodle" definitely holds true. By now, three poodles are part of our family. Of the four official sizes in which this wonderful breed exists, we’ve especially fallen in love with the Miniature Poodle (35 cm–45 cm).
Fanta and Easy joined us with the vague idea that we might want to breed one day. That distant future has now become the present. I registered the kennel name "de los Martillos" (24888) a few years ago, and we are overjoyed that our puppies will officially carry our family name, "Hammer."
Our first litter came into the world on March 23, 2024.
We are over the moon.
